Summary: Boop! Is a fun interactive picture book where the reader follows along and is encouraged to boop each dog snoot they see. There are many dogs throughout the book of all shapes and sizes.
Justification: When I first saw this book on the Texas 2x2 list I knew I had to read it. The cover with the dog caught my attention.
Evaluation: For this book I will be evaluating the text, the illustrations, and the layout of the book.
One of the first things I noticed when reading this book was, on the first page, the author set out a reminder for kids to ask dog owners before trying to touch dogs given that throughout the book, they are encouraged to touch each dog nose they see. I did like to see that reminder since it will help keep children from going up to a random dog and trying to touch it.
Boop! has very eye-catching illustrations. The illustrations were noticeably clear and fun to look at. The illustrations complement the text as the book as the text is interactive which is what makes the story enjoyable as it asks the reader questions throughout the book, keeping the reader engaged. I can see this book being one that parents or caregivers will enjoy reading with young children.
The layout of the book had some parts where the reader has to flip the book upside-down as well as rotating the book 90 degrees in order to read the text. This makes it enjoyable for kids as it is different than your normal picture book. Some of the fonts used were bold and eye-catching, going along well with the illustrations.
